Position: Initial Trial of 4 weeks – permanent on successful completion of trial

Overall Purpose of the Job:
To help develop websites for a wide range of business clients.
The applicant will need a good grounding in a wide range of web related programming languages. The role will involve good time management, meeting deadlines and working through often complex programming tasks to solve specific client issues.
The role will also occasionally involve attendance of meetings with clients to understand the client’s requirements first hand.
Key Responsibilities of this job:
The jobs key responsibilities include being a valuable member of a web development team, undertaking programming tasks to help facilitate the timely creation of client’s websites.
You will also be required to help with the development of our content management system, both in developing new plug-ins, bug fixing and supporting new and existing clients in their use of these systems.
Knowledge and experience required:
A successful applicant must be able to programme in numerous programming languages including:
HTML / XHTML 1.0
CSS PHP
MYSQL
Javascript
Action Script
The above programming languages will be used on a daily basis and a successful applicant will be one who can programme quickly and fluently to a high standard. Any programming created will need to be followed by others in the development team so should be logically laid out and commented when necessary. We work mainly on a Linux platform so a good working knowledge of this operating system is useful.
The applicant must also have a good working knowledge of the following applications
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Macromedia Flash
Personal Specification:
The ideal applicant will have a high degree of web development knowledge and be educated to at least college level in a related technical subject. Education to degree level is desired and a good portfolio of past work would be an advantage.
The ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve is essential, as is the ability to work alone and to apply initiative. There are likely to be occasions when these skills will be required in a high-pressure environment due to a business system failure etc. A systematic and conscientious approach to all tasks is essential, as is close attention to detail when dealing with technical issues.
The role requires good verbal and written communication skills for interaction with clients. This includes the ability to explain the advantages of given technologies to non-technical clients in a clear and concise manner so they can make informed decisions. Likewise, the successful applicant must be able to build positive relationships with key clients.
Working environment:
The position will be based at the Manchester office, working closely with other members of the Duo Design team in a relaxed atmosphere. You may be required to occasionally attend meetings off-site so a full driving license and access to a car would be beneficial.
