At Duo we get very little spam. I know what you're thinking, eveyone gets spam, you must get loads. We don't, and we don't for many reasons. These reasons we share with all our clients, however it is up to them if they take our advice.
Spam Bots are programmes written by malicious programmers that go from website to website scanning pages for email addresses. Once got these email addresses are added to unsolicited mailing lists. If you put your email address on your website and your website is popular it is only a matter of time before your mailbox starts filling. Once your address has been hijacked in this way you will carry on receiveing spam until you change your address. The best thing to do is never publish your address.
info@ marketing@ sales@ accounts@... these are all generic email address and should be avoided at all costs. If you have thought of using a generic email address believe us when we say it's just not worth it. These mailboxes fill up quickly with spam. Anything predicatable should be avoided, if you think its obvious so do spammers.
Catch all addresses in principle seem like a good idea, they mean people can type anything before the @ symbol and you'll still get the message. However in reality what this means is spammers can successfully send an email to every gerneric email address (see above) and you will recieve it. This will result in litterally hundreds of spam messages a day. In short a catch all will drive you mad. If you currently run a catch all, you will reduce your spam reception many times by just switching this off.
