Duo's Double Webservingwebservers

Web servers, like any system, are only as strong as their weakest link. In three years of hosting websites we have only ever had one web-server major outage ( due to a faulty hard drive ). What is more common is short periods of network outages. This is when the connection with the web server stops working for some reason.

For this reason we felt it would be better to provide reliability by doubling up on all our systems. We now run all our websites on two separate web-servers in two different data-centres on two networks in two different countries.

Our backup server monitors our main server and if the main server fails to respond for longer than five minutes the backup automatically takes over. This system minimises downtime on websites to almost no time at all. As both servers automatically take daily and weekly backups we always have four copies of your website so their is little chance of losing any data.

With our servers each having well over 99% uptime this may seem a little over the top. But we know, as you do, that its not how much down time you have, but when you have it. If you are in the middle of that critical presentation or your number one customer is about to make an order downtime could cost you dearly, or at the very least make you look unprofessional. Two servers seemed the obvious solution to this.
