At Duo we know how difficult can be to work as a struggling freelance designer. Getting your first piece of design work and getting your skills known can be an uphill battle.
For this reason we spent some of our spare time programming design show, which first went live in January 2004. The site allows designers from many disciplines to sign up and display examples of their work. We have not really marketed the site but it has still managed to attract a number of young designers eager to show their work.
We have known for some time now that a website tends to do well when there is a lot of content. By getting lots of designers to put their work together in one place they all benefit from a bigger audience.
We understood from the outset that we would not have the time to add or update content for the designers. For this reason we have programmed the site so designers can keep their exhibits up-to-date without our help.
The site is free to use for designers and is likely to remain free until such time it becomes expensive for us to run. We will then look at implementing a subscription fee, but this is still a long way off.
